Found in open forests, meadows, and clearings, and sometimes in snowmelt areas, the mountain pasqueflower has a large, bowl-shaped flower that can be up to three inches wide. The flower has six to eight petal-like sepals that are deep blue to purple, and a center with 150 to 200 yellow stamens. The plant is covered in long, silky hairs that give it a soft, white appearance. It can grow at altitudes of over 10,000 feet.
