A modern 8x10" abstract watercolor painting playfully exploring our relationship to the macro and microscopic world. Using watercolors pigments that were sustainably sourced from minerals and earthen clay, I wanted to explore the idea of how all humans are made of stardust. The materials of the earth not only sustain us, but also make up our natural composition.

PROCESS:
For the process of this piece, I used a twig to apply masking fluid to the paper and let it dry naturally, then applied a watercolor wash of orange ochre which has a natural vividness and smooth texture. After letting it dry naturally, I removed the dried masking fluid and applied random marks in ultramarine blue, to create a playful contrasting effect.

MATERIALS:
I used ultramarine blue (made from earthen clay and minerals), French turquoise (mineral) and orange ochre (natural iron oxide - made of clay and sand).
The paper is hot-pressed 100% cotton watercolor paper

PACKAGING:
Comes securely packaged, wrapped in archival paper and protective plastic sheeting, supported on a sheet of backing board and shipped in a rigid cardboard mailer.
