My artwork often threads the line between painting and fiber art. At the core, my work is about soulful storytelling, the comforts of home and our connection to nature. I build up my work in layers of acrylic paint, collage and discarded scraps of textile, often going back and forth between paint and fabric scraps cut or ripped in haphazard shapes. The defining characteristics of my art include an undone, loose and layered style with unexpected color combinations and intriguing compositions. I like to keep my brushstrokes quick and imperfect, sometimes following a representational element and sometimes not. Sometimes, I might finish a piece with a bit of thread work, running a stitch directly on the artwork with my sewing machine or embroidered with needle and thread. In working this way, I hope to create art that is unpretentious, almost naive and unexpected, yet always bringing the viewer a curiosity to look closer and a evoking a sense of nostalgia - a real lovecraft celebrating the human experience and the natural world we live in.
