Sterling Sea is inspired by the ways that sunlight bounces off of waves in the ocean. I wanted to capture the light and dark in each wave, the different shades of blue and teal at different times of day, and the way sunlight dances inside it all in one. This piece juxtaposes the stillness and movement of a powerful and calming ocean.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

As an artist, painting can be tormenting and sublime at the same time. I'm a big risk taker, experimenting with different materials to layer, stain, scrap and saturate color on large canvases. My most successful work is complex yet minimal. Some of my work achieves a sense of fluid movement with saturated color, while my newer collection is so textured it is like frosting. The end result should be a painting that will spiritually and emotionally capture, calm, and elevate us. less
