This print started with a linoleum carving; the floral design was carved by hand and printed before being digitized and colored. The kraft background gives it a rustic, natural feel. My work all starts with hand-carved linoleum blocks" I am inspired by the bold, imperfect look of hand block printing. I embrace the uneven textures that come from printing hand-carved blocks, and often plan my designs around them.

Katharine Watson is an artist and printmaker based in Portland, Maine. Katharine grew up in London and Hong Kong, and settled in Portland in 2015. She begins her work with a sketch that she translates to a linoleum block and then carves by hand, later printing these designs onto stationery, textiles, ceramics, and other everyday goods. When she's not in her studio, she's out gardening with her husband and two dogs, or reading home design magazines with a cup of jasmine tea. less
