About the work

In this mixed-media artwork I have created a painterly version of the state of Iowa inspired by its symbols derived from nature. Here, impasto applications of white paint layer with subtle hints of pale rose and light gray to reference the colors of both the state flower, the wild prairie rose, and the state gem, the geode. Completing the piece is a contrasting ground comprised of variegated brushstrokes in shades of deep teal green, a subtle nod to the green of the oak, the state tree.
