Many poses for figure studies feel contrived. Not so here; I feel as if the model and I could grab brunch after a relaxing sleep-in. A back may not seem like an interesting subject to paint, especially in relation to more detailed or dynamic parts of the body. However, I love studying the subtle nuances of form, color, skin tone, light and value. This composition gave me the opportunity to explore them all.
