This sketch is taken from a sketchbook I took with me while studying ancient cave dwellings in Matera, Italy while in architecture school. These cave dwellings are carved out of the cliff and are known as the 'Sassi.' I had sketched the Sassi late one evening under a dim street lamp while on my way from town back to the monastery I was residing at. This sketch is special to me because I had only taken a sketchbook to record my memories and not a camera on this particular trip.
