About the work

These amaryllis bulbs were given as a gift, and as I was sketching them, I became intrigued with the idea that painting and drawing the flowers creates yet another gift. The gift keeps on giving. The flowers keep on living in my ink sketch painting, a contemporary take on the classic still-life concept, which is wonderfully varied throughout history. I explore and play with pattern and color, and with what I leave in and what I leave out. This is part of a larger "still-life" collection I am developing. Collection them, or gift them!
