About the work
This was a large 48" x 60" canvas that started with lots of texture. Then came the wash of blues, teals, white and gold with large Japanese brushes moving in large sweeps. As I moved the paint over the canvas a sky seemed to form. When done I had to name it "northern lights" because it was magical!

As an artist, painting can be tormenting and sublime at the same time. I'm a big risk taker, experimenting with different materials to layer, stain, scrap and saturate color on large canvases. My most successful work is complex yet minimal. Some of my work achieves a sense of fluid movement with saturated color, while my newer collection is so textured it is like frosting. The end result should be a painting that will spiritually and emotionally capture, calm, and elevate us.
