About the work

In this mixed-media artwork, I have created a painterly rendition of the state of Virginia inspired by the state's designated symbols. Here, impasto applications of paint assemble in layers across the state to mimic the ivory petals of the dogwood, the state flower, while the plant's green leaves form color inspiration for a coordinating ground. Completing the piece is water rendered in deep blues, a nod to the blue of the state flag.
