Megan Taber and Jason Noghrey tied the knot on September 16, 2017 at Holman Ranch, located in bucolic Carmel Valley, Calif. The couple incorporated rustic-yet-elegant details to complement their wedding setting, including black-and-white invitations, jewel-toned florals, and wooden signs handmade by the bride’s father.
Jason and I met through a mutual best friend (my maid of honor!).
It was simple and sweet, at home in our Oakland loft with our dogs.
One of my coworkers had her wedding at Holman Ranch a few years prior. We fell in love with the place and didn’t consider anywhere else!
We chose Carmel Valley because it’s within driving distance for most of our friends and family. We wanted everyone to experience a little escape and the wine country of Carmel Valley was perfect.
Once they arrived at the ceremony, guests were offered a glass of rosé or iced tea with lemonade—everyone still talks about how nice it was to have a drink offered right when they arrived!
One of my favorite memories was walking down the aisle, looking at all of my favorite people beaming at me and my dad.
We wrote our vows ourselves—it was challenging but so, so worth it.

We wanted an invitation that was ‘rustic elegant,’ just like our wedding.
Choosing a wedding invitation can be a huge stress but Minted made it easy. I love how they store your addresses for you in your account and print them right on the envelopes. This saved so much time!
Attached to our escort cards were antique-style keys that also doubled as bottle openers. For the kids, we tied their tags to a burlap sack that was filled with goodies like a handmade coloring book, crayons, and bubbles.
My dad does amazing woodworking and I wanted to feature some of his magic at the wedding. He made wooden table numbers that turned out even better than I imagined, as well as a huge cutting-board block that we used as our cake display.
There were many traditional wedding things that just didn’t feel like us, so we decided to skip the ones that just didn’t feel natural. Also, I recommend hiring a wedding planner who you can relate to. I can’t stress enough how valuable it was for us to have someone making sure everyone ran smoothly so we could focus on each other and spend time with the people we love.
