This mostly abstract art piece combines two birds and a nest, combining the known with the unknown, and leaving room for the mystery. The presence and resilience of birds always fills me with joy and hope, and I trust that every spring they will begin building their nest again from whatever scraps were left from winter.

Mary James Ketch is a contemporary American artist living in the woods near Norman, Oklahoma. Her narrative paintings are a visual distillation of scenes of everyday life, in which the figures seem to inhabit a lyrical dream-like world. She draws on memories from childhood, family life, and the surrounding landscape. Ketch attended the University of Oklahoma before receiving her M.F.A. from the University of Southern California, School of Cinema-Television. less
