About the work

In this painting, I highlighted parts of the poppy plant, keeping the composition clean and streamlined. The various shades of green mix with the purples gently, giving it depth while keeping the overall feel soft and elegant. I like isolating objects in a type of austere portrait.

I work from my home-based studio in San Francisco. Mostly self-taught, my style is equal parts classic, understated and whimsical. I am inspired by food, flora, the colors in nature and human faces. I approach most of my art in a methodical manner as my left and right hemispheres fight for position. I transitioned from corporate telecommunications and logistics to running my own creative business over a decade ago. Very different places! My messy hair and paint-laden hands have been very happy.
