About the work

In this mixed-media artwork, I've created a painterly rendition of the state of Oregon inspired by the state's nature-derived symbols. Here, impasto applications of paint assemble in swirling layers, a nod to the striated layers of thunderegg, the state rock. The green needles of the Douglas fir, the state tree, provide inspiration for the subtly textured background. Completing the piece are fluid washes of indigo paint, selected to showcase the rolling waves of the Pacific in the state color, navy blue.
