As a college student, I taught myself to make daguerreotypes in my dorm bathroom. The difficult process deepened my appreciation for the history of photography. I used the texture from one of my daguerreotypes to add a sense of nostalgia to this photograph of the Gavrilos mills in Santorini, Greece, which were built around the same time that daguerreotypes were invented.
