About the work

In this mixed-media artwork I have created a painterly version of the state of Indiana inspired by the state's designated symbols. Here, textured, impasto applications of ivory paint layer with subtle hints of color to symbolize the layered petals of the peony, the state flower; the yellow green hue of the tulip poplar, the state tree; and the sedimentary qualities of Salem limestone, the state stone. Completing the piece is a background rendered in a green color mixed from paint in tones of blue and gold, the colors of the state flag.
