About the work

This mixed-media artwork features a painterly version of the state of Florida. Here, fluid washes of watercolor in bold colors come together to form a work suggestive of the symbols unique to the state. The Atlantic Ocean is rendered in subtly variegated brushstrokes of light turquoise, forming a serene backdrop for the coral color of the state, used to represent the state fruit, the orange, while the adjoining land's mellow shades of green similarly represent the color of the fruit featured in state pie, key lime.
