An abstracted twist on a traditional landscape. Created using painted paper collage, this piece was inspired by a recent trip to Hawai'i. I was struck by the contrast between the jagged land forms and the smooth sea and sky, appearing here as negative space.

Kayla King is an abstract painter living and working in California. With the mountains and sea both at her doorstep, her work is largely influenced by motion: physical landscape, energy, and sound all playing a large role in what is eventually translated to the finished piece. Stories are told in overlapping layers and marks, creating a visual language that seeks to express a moment or memory suspended in time. less
