About the work

In this mixed-media artwork, I’ve created a painterly rendition of New Jersey inspired by the state’s nature-derived symbols. Here, impasto applications of white paint intermix with hints of blue and green, a nod to the blue hue of the highbush blueberry, the state fruit, and the white and green blossoms of the dogwood, the state tree. The background, rendered in variegated greens, pays homage to the state nickname, “The Garden State.” Completing the piece are fluid washes of indigo paint, selected to showcase the rolling waves of the Atlantic in the state color, Jersey blue.
