We flew north, over craggy peaks, their jagged intersections unfolding rhythmically toward the horizon, bobbing and weaving through mist and smoke. The Canadian Rockies are razor-edged, sheer, giving way to shale landslides and immutable stone faces. But from this perspective, they are like mountains of ash, quietly cradling the matte blue pools below.
