This California-based artist evolved her fashion design career into a thriving art business. She now focuses on her abstract, geometric style with a bold use of color.
“My mother was definitely a big influence. She’s very creative and one of the things she did a lot of was silkscreening. It’s a wonderful process in that you’re putting paint through a silk stencil. I loved it. It was like magic. There’s something about the process that was so exciting, lifting the screen, and seeing the images in paint. That was where I first fell in love with paint.”
“I realized that paper was very forgiving in the same way that textiles were. I think having a canvas and having the edges be defined felt limiting in a way. So I started exploring the idea of using canvas unrolled.”
“Part of it is the physical process of how my arm wants to move. There’s an intuitive part that takes over. There’s motion or energy that’s captured in the artwork itself. That’s what makes everybody’s hand distinctive and unique.”
