The issue: Globally, more than 800 women die each day from complications of pregnancy and childbirth—approximately one woman every two minutes. EMC is working to change that.
The solution: Almost all maternal deaths are preventable. How? By ensuring that everyone has timely access to quality, respectful, and equitable maternity care.
What EMC does: EMC advances evidence-based strategies to address the global maternal health crisis and improve maternal health outcomes and the experience of care for all, with a focus specifically on:
The United States ranks 55th in maternal mortality, even though it spends more on health care per capita than any other nation in the world.
The U.S. is the only resourced country in the world with a rising maternal mortality rate.
Black, Brown and Indigenous mothers in the U.S. are two to four times more likely to die from pregnancy and childbirth than their white counterparts.
Every Mother Counts, a nonprofit organization founded by Christy Turlington Burns that seeks to make pregnancy and childbirth safe, respectful, and equitable for everyone, everywhere.
